We developed HolidAI for Chicago-based Motion Agency. In the Simon Malls in New York and Los Angeles, the HolidAI chatbot now makes it easier to find the perfect Christmas gift. Through an interactive question-and-answer game, HolidAI records the individual wishes and needs of customers. A team of friendly “Helper Elves”, equipped with tablets, provides on-site support. This approach also enables an AI-powered personalized shopping experience in brick-and-mortar stores that both entertains customers and effectively supports them in their gift selection.

The technology behind our chatbot

The core of HolidAI is OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which enables the chatbot to conduct natural language conversations with customers. We give GPT-4 access to a product database and use special prompt techniques to ask multiple-choice questions based on the products available. These questions are designed to gradually narrow down the selection of suitable products. Once enough information has been collected to make a product recommendation, HolidAI presents customized products tailored to the recipient with descriptions and pictures and gives a well-founded explanation of why it has chosen these gifts.
