Midjourney Prompt Generator

How to generate great images with Midjourney

Midjourney is an image generator that can create great images – if you are good at describing images. The key here is to have good ideas for visualisations in mind and to know how Midjourney prompts are constructed.

However, finding good prompts for abstract concepts that are not easy to visualise is difficult. Therefore, we decided to leave this to ChatGPT and wrote a prompt generator for Midjourney.

Here you can try out the prompt generator yourself, just enter a topic, for example:

  • Customer Success
  • Climate change
  • Sustainability
  • Tax return

Midjourney Prompt Generator

How does the Midjourney Prompt Generator work?

We will briefly explain how the prompt generator works: It consists of a prompt that makes ChatGPT respond to each user input with three midjourney prompt suggestions. You can also try it out yourself in ChatGPT by inserting the prompt we are about to introduce you to.

How is the prompt structured?

The prompt consists of exactly 3 parts: The context, the task and examples.

The context

Since ChatGPT’s knowledge cutoff is in 2021 and Midjourney has only been around since 2022, we first need to explain what Midjourney is about.

Context: Midjourney is a generative artificial intelligence that generates images from natural language descriptions called “prompts”, similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. A prompt is a short phrase of text that Midjourney interprets to create an image. A well-written prompt can help create unique and exciting images.

The task

To explain the task, we use the classic persona pattern and want ChatGPT to take on the role of a designer. The designer should be able to visualise abstract concepts. With the hint “Think out of the box” we tickle a little more creativity out of ChatGPT.

Task: Act as a designer. Here is a list of the top midjourney prompts from the community. Figure out what makes the perfect prompt. When given a topic, think about how to illustrate it and come up with 3 midjourney prompts. Avoid abstract concepts that can’t be easily represented by a text-to-image model, find an alternative visual representation. Think out of the box. Wait for the topic.

The examples

In the first version of the prompt we put the complete online documentation of Midjourney into the prompt. However, this bloated the prompt and did not produce such good results. The prompts generated were not in the typical concise Midjourney style and the image descriptions were uncreative.

It works better with Few Shot Prompting. With Few Shot Prompting, we give ChatGPT examples in the prompt that we use to illustrate exactly what we expect as output. ChatGPT can learn best from concrete examples, which is also how the model was trained.

For our prompt generator, we can use the best midjourney prompts from the community as examples.

List of Top Midjourney prompts:

/imagine portrait photo of a asia old warrior chief, tribal panther make up, blue on red, side profile, looking away, serious eyes, 50mm portrait photography, hard rim lighting photography –ar 2:3

/imagine aerial view of a giant fish tank shaped like a tower in the middle of new york city, 8k octane render, photorealistic –ar 9:20

/imagine hyper realistic photograph, portrait of a beautiful happy southamerican woman, big silver earings, tied hair, summer :: film grain, Kodak portra 800, f1.8, golden hour –ar 2:3

/imagine kneeling cat knight, portrait, finely detailed armor, intricate design, silver, silk, cinematic lighting, 4k, –ar 9:16

/imagine anthropomorphic cute ferret detective wearing a coat and a hat, from a hardboiled movie smoking a cigarette in a city at night, smirky look, 1950, corona render, 8k hdr, hyperreal, backlight, hight contrast, colored

Conclusion

If we put the three sections together, we get a prompt generator that we can use to generate three midjourney prompts for a theme or abstract concept. Just try it out for yourself. You can quickly generate a suitable image for a blog post or a LinkedIn post.
